Awaken...

[ Everything still feels a bit hazy when you pull yourself out of bed this morning. Bed... not all of you may remember going to bed. It may take several long minutes for that feeling to die down. Several things may seem immediately wrong. But even if the basics are familiar-- there's a sort of uneasy feeling of wrongness that lingers as you come to. That feeling will probably never go away entirely.

Attached to your wrist is a small plastic wristband, almost like a watch, but without the numbers. Try as you might, it won't come off. For those of you who are familiar, it is designed with an uncanny familiarity to a Fitbit.

And then there's your current abode-- the room is fully furnished for one person-- and you are in fact alone, which may be a relief... or a great concern. The basics are all there: desk, lamp, bed, closet...

As the little things go though, it's almost completely bare of any personal flare. No personal effects at all...

With one exception.

On the desk sits a black tablet. And almost immediately after you find it, the thing starts going off one rapid fire 'ding' after another. Check it out and you will find several messages have popped up on the screen for you to scan through. The source and the content is... well. As questionable as everything else this morning I'd say. ]

meguman22922: mornin'! hope you slept well.
meguman22922: orientation will be held in the main classroom in an hour. that's in the school building on the 1st floor
meguman22922: but first you should introduce yourself. the others should be waking up about now too.
meguman22922: you're in the dorms now, so dont forget to check the maps
meguman22922: the tablet can help you with that. anything else, we'll get to at orientation. so! see you in an hour! :D

[ It would seem that you have much to investigate. Perhaps discussing it with these "others" may be the most beneficial way to proceed for now. At the very least there is a promise of answers in the near future. Whether or not they'll be to your liking though... highly doubtful at this stage, really. But who knows! Going back to school (or to school for your first time) can't be so bad, right? ]

You never know. They might not be very smart kidnappers.

Trust me, I'm a cop. [ haha ] An operation this big? They aren't gonna be taking their chances.

[ Boy, he does not look so impressed by that. ]

A title doesn't make you trustworthy.

[ ... ]

... You never know. If emotions run high they could do stupid things. [ Like kill their previous Overseer. ]

Not my problem if you don't trust me. But I don't stop being a cop just because I'm not in Detroit.

[ He stops being a cop about six drinks in, but who's counting. ]

Really doubt the people who dressed us up in school uniforms were in much of a state besides 'calculated apathy.' Unless you want the alternative, which is that they enjoyed it.

Which I'd rather not thing about, but that's just me.

[ Hank stop being rude, christ. ]

[ Dewhere. ]

Anything is possible.

Even people who do things out of necessity might end up becoming their mask, so to speak.

[ ... Doing something for the sake of a bigger goal, and getting drunk on the power of it all. Not being able to accept a hand to try and save them, out of pride and their own desperation to see their goal complete.

He's seen it before. ]

Assuming is dangerous.

Sure. Doesn't make 'em any less nuts.

[ He shrugs. It's all part of the job. ]

It's called profiling, not assuming.

That part of your job too?

I'm a detective, so yeah. It's literally part of the job.

I thought there were specific profilers to put together criminal profiles.

Yeah, in Major Crimes, maybe. Homicide detectives have to do that shit ourselves. Our budget's spread thin as it is.

So, your specialised investigation groups, like the PSIA, would have specific profilers, but general police just go ahead and assign double duty. Huh. I wonder if that's the same in regular Japanese police force too.

...

Are you planning on profiling any of us here?

[personal profile] donotlick 2018-08-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Dunno how it'd work in Japan, but that's how we do it in Detroit. I mean, I'm no beat cop, so I still have cases and that kind of thing, but when a killer's on the loose, we start making profiles to try and figure out their next move. It's standard procedure.

Nobody's given me a reason to start. So let's say "I hope not" and not think about it too hard. How 'bout that?

Same thing, on different scales. [ It's said more to himself than anything. Interesting. ]

"I hope not" sounds fair. There are some characters around here though - might be something to do if you find yourself getting bored. Although maybe more of a general personality profile, than one on what kind of killers we are.

[ ... until that becomes relevant. ]
