WEEK 2
[ Week 2 has begun. It's quiet and calm on campus so far, and you definitely aren't being called out for more. You know. BS or icebreakers. The wall is still deceptively easy to hop over, the birds are singing, Todd's somewhere on campus.
Welcome to week 2 of classes everyone. ]

[because if that is a sword-like pencil slash you're going at this like you're some expy from the Hell Note anime]
no subject
(it really is exactly like the hell note anime)
he turns around, blocking the paper with his body]
Nothing! It's really nothing!
no subject
[That idea is already nerdier than anything you could have been drawing, YOOSUNG IS THE NERD HERE.]
no subject
[it puts him at ease in a way. games, a topic about which he has some knowledge, unlike all this going outside stuff that the facilities encourage more]
no subject
[Yoosung is also taking refuge from sports. Let's face it, there's no way he was going to get that flag.]
no subject
[This is Mitarai's golden opportunity to go outside without People. But maybe Yoosung is ruining it!!!???]
no subject
["Why would I play a game about fresh food," you know. MITARAI DID YOU EAT. But no, he is only going to ruin that if somehow they wind up going outside from here anyway]
no subject
[Oh no now he'll sound immature or something.]
Not really, sorry... They're just a little inconvenient to eat while drawing, for one thing...
[IF ONLY HE HAD A WAIFU TO MAKE HIM FINELY CUT BENTO STYLE]
no subject
Doesn't that depend on the vegetable though? They make carrot chips~!
no subject
[Mitarai is kind of lost in thought as he's thinking out loud so if Yoosung makes less than a 45 degree angle he can get a better look without being interrupted.]
no subject
[Thank god Mitarai is his peer so he's allowed to be nosy like this. On many levels, is there even anything interesting on this paper? Yoink]
no subject
[Ugh he hates this question. It takes him back to the days of [REDACTED] which are now tainted by the ultimate outcome of [REDACTED].]
Like they have here [in the supplies room] but, uh, also in the cafeteria sometimes! [YEAH, TOTALLY! YOOSUNG HAS SEEN HIM IN THERE AT LEAST
...
ONCE
It's fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
no subject
He will try not to get TOO concerned that he has basically never seen him in there, I mean Yoosung was a late arrival and they could just have wildly different sleep schedules.
Though the fact that Mitarai's dark circles are at least as heinous as Yoosung's don't match up with that notion. Let's just encourage that he does go there sometimes. Like Yoosung. He is happy to be a moochsung.]
...I mean, they cook all kinds of meals for us, so why not, right?
no subject
[It's better than what they had in the future foundation too besides Ando-senpai's sweets. Honestly how can the world be ravaged by that terrible wall-jumping virus when the food is of such reasonable quality. And the lighting in the school is fine too. Mysteries on mysteries.]
But sometimes you're in the middle of something and don't get over in time. [He quirks his lips a little.] You can... relate with your gaming, right?
no subject
Oh! You got me there. I.... always have to pig out on junk food when I'm grinding for loot....
[For a moment he just sighs wistfully, but then, the fact that he can't even do that here anymore hits him like a ton of bricks. He could just cry.]
...But why'd you have to remind me of that?! Ack... my LOLOL withdrawals... [sniff]
no subject
[Mitarai got pretty worked up because he REALLY didn't want to get reminded of the guy who used to ask him if he had eaten!! But he also feels bad seeing Yoosung almost tearful and objectively the comment was innocuous.]
Sorry, I didn't mean to poke fun at anyone... Let's just not bother each other about that, OK?
no subject
[He forces a tired sounding laugh at his 'reason to survive'. But that may truly be all he's got - his attempts to help others really do just kind of amount to meddling, huh.]
no subject
[He looks at Yoosung with dead eyes. The paper has a number of circles connected by loose curved lines kind of like limbs in motion, clearly a skilled freehand artist here.]
It's not like a single key frame is worth anything outside of a niche auction. Anime takes weeks to produce, really months when completely alone. So what does it say that I've been focusing all my time on that anyway?
no subject
[This is the exact moment when Yoosung understands why Mitarai is the Apprentice of "Anime" instead of simply being an "Animator."]
I didn't realize you were trying to actually put together an anime here... but well, I don't know that it really says much, ahaha. Even if I have no idea how you'd finish it, we all have way too much free time and not much to focus on besides getting out of here without being hijacked.
[And murder. He hopes making anime keeps Mitarai's focus completely off of murder. But surely it does, right? They should ALL be so focused on something other than murder!!]
Hey, but maybe you don't have to do it completely alone! I'm not talented at drawing or anything besides doodling, but wasn't there some guy that can paint?
no subject
...don't... alone...?
[Ever since he woke up in the university - no, ever since he crawled out of that river - Mitarai has been fundamentally alone. Yoosung looking so closely at his welfare doesn't change his loneliness; for Mitarai it's just one more of the simple human connections that have always, always gone so poorly. He glares into Yoosung's eyes and shouts, a natural reaction to a violation of privacy even if his stress manifests itself in a petty choice of words.]
Someone like me could never work over his watercolors in time!
[All that Mitarai can do "in time" is lean down, still facing Yoosung, to gather all these supplies that he can take out of here.]
It takes real talent to make anime... To do anything that gives people hope they can hold onto! [With all the supplies cradled under one arm, he straightens up and points at Yoosung with his other hand.] You should already understand that most people are weak and can't help each other out of the void without a real hope!
no subject
I don't get what you're saying about hope! But aren't the ones who are suffering in weakness the ones who we should help the most? Even a little bit that can make someone's life happier... that's what Rika would have wanted. She's the most talented person I ever knew!
[It's true, and his voice creaks from the desperation of no longer knowing. He looks back into Mitarai's eyes, thinking that surely he can at least understand this much, following the wisdom from a better person. As if that was enough, and could ever bring Yoosung hope. A silence passes as he breathes, uncertainty filling his lungs like he's drowning in it, until it leaks out of new holes from his chest.]
But her memory still doesn't tell me what to do... Mishima's the one who told me I still had a reason to preserve my life instead of fighting for his sake until they killed me. Saying we're worthless without 'hope'...
[He scrubs his eyes, so they won't be dripping wet when he finally glares at Mitarai.]
Just who do you think you are?!
Danganronpa Spoilers (Not V3)
I'm not... I never told anyone to... To just die. I don't want anyone to suffer ever again. I value... Everyone's lives. I don't think it's right for people to have conflict with each other. We should always try to work together for a peaceful solution.
But there's no "we" in between the people with enough hope to help and the huge masses who get caught up in the tsunami.
[He turns on his heel and addresses Yoosung over his shoulder.] Who am I? I'm the head of the tenth branch of the future foundation. We deliver aid to areas in need after disasters that are almost exactly like hijacking. I've seen hundreds of corpses piled up in the places we didn't reach in time. That's what I know about how many people can be strong in places like this.
no subject
His following explanation sort of makes more sense. The situation reminds him of the one back home with the future foundation... sure, a little suspicious, but sheds some light on his demeanor. The only problem is how did the topic get here in the first place? It frankly doesn't seem like it has anything to do with what they were talking about two minutes ago.
And then he makes the connection.]
Wait, are you saying you 'reach' them with anime?!
no subject
[Just to make sure Yoosung hasn't mistaken the Future Foundation for some deranged anime production company. No, Mitarai is the one member of the foundation who has this particular skill! That's why he's so used to working alone! And so bad with negotiation! Utterly unlike Naegi! He clearly has no way of salvaging this situation with further human interaction. What's more, he might have to face criticism of his anime, sight unseen, and that prospect is unbearable. There's only one way he can possibly save face in this situation as he is about to walk out and close the door, forcefully yet withdrawing at the last second to make sure it does not slam.]
One day soon I'll reach you too, Yoosung Kim-kun!
no subject
[Yoosung still feels like he understands none of what's going on, and almost certainly like he failed at dealing with it properly, so he just kind of stares at the door with panicked confusion, tears still lacing his eyes. What does he mean?! What's he gonna do to him?!
Only one thing is for sure.
That was very Anime.]
