Awaken...
[ Everything still feels a bit hazy when you pull yourself out of bed this morning. Bed... not all of you may remember going to bed. It may take several long minutes for that feeling to die down. Several things may seem immediately wrong. But even if the basics are familiar-- there's a sort of uneasy feeling of wrongness that lingers as you come to. That feeling will probably never go away entirely.
Attached to your wrist is a small plastic wristband, almost like a watch, but without the numbers. Try as you might, it won't come off. For those of you who are familiar, it is designed with an uncanny familiarity to a Fitbit.
And then there's your current abode-- the room is fully furnished for one person-- and you are in fact alone, which may be a relief... or a great concern. The basics are all there: desk, lamp, bed, closet...
As the little things go though, it's almost completely bare of any personal flare. No personal effects at all...
With one exception.
On the desk sits a black tablet. And almost immediately after you find it, the thing starts going off one rapid fire 'ding' after another. Check it out and you will find several messages have popped up on the screen for you to scan through. The source and the content is... well. As questionable as everything else this morning I'd say. ]
[ It would seem that you have much to investigate. Perhaps discussing it with these "others" may be the most beneficial way to proceed for now. At the very least there is a promise of answers in the near future. Whether or not they'll be to your liking though... highly doubtful at this stage, really. But who knows! Going back to school (or to school for your first time) can't be so bad, right? ]

[Yep, we're going there!]

[Waaaaait a moment. Poe seems to realize something and tries to pull the back of it into his usual ponytail. He makes an noise of distress at seeing it no longer being able to reach his collar bone in length.]
I- I didn't notice earlier due to everything else, but my hair's slightly shorter than I last remember!
[Oh no. He's in an memory loss mystery. WHY.]
Are- are there any other changes to your body that you don't remember? Like new scars?
[Maybe... maybe the people running this just mess with people's hair?.... Poe mentally laughs at that stupid hope. It's fairly clear something is wrong with their memories now, and missing memories would account for all the discrepancies he found in his own profile. But... a sample size of two isn't good enough to jump to such an wild conclusion so fast. But then again. He is talking to an alien. So that's rather tame in comparison.]
no subject
[A gesture indicating chin length.]
And not that I was able to tell, but I hardly keep track of every scar I've ever carried.
no subject
[Just... give him an second to resign himself to the likely fact he's missing six years worth of memories.]
Unless there's some kind of miracle hair growth elixir I am unaware of, we..... we are missing memories..... specifically either just the two of us or everyone in our group. I'll.... I'll have to put out an questionnaire later.
no subject
[Folded arms. He doesn't like this, either.
Actually he really likes none of this.]
no subject
I'm aware. But the best outcome is that we are simply anomalies..... although I sincerely doubt that with how everything is starting to look.
no subject
[He doesn't exactly like agreeing with a human... But when they speak sense, what else can he do?]
If everyone is to gather at this... orientation, anyway, that would be the place to ask.
no subject
[Poe's face briefly has an small confident smile grace it.]
And interacting with the other's here.... I've had time to iron out what I feel are some fairly solid theories about our current predicament. As.... As long as we don't antagonize whoever gives the orientation, we should get some answers.
no subject
> Viral
That's going to go very well for you Poe.
There's a very small nod, however.]
And then we can work out what the missing pieces are from there.
no subject
[Poe might be beaming slightly now.]
Thank you for bringing up your new hair length by the way... ah... Viral? It.... It would've been irritating if we figured this out after 'Orientation' began. Who knows if they'd allow us to ask questions after that.
no subject
[Because it's uh. concerning.]
There's a lot of questions about that I would ask.
no subject
[Might as well see what he's thinking about asking.]
no subject
[Because that's a hell of a thing to have on your profile if you're not expecting it.]
no subject
[He was aware of that. ]
Do you have any sort of idea what sort of circumstances could lead to you becoming an.... ex-fugitive?
no subject
no subject
[What..... on earth are those.]
no subject
[Look he's not giving all their military secrets to a human.]
no subject
[He mutters to himself.]
Alright. Since you've shared, it's only fair I share my own discrepancies. I'm listed as 28, when last I remember being 22. Most irritating though, is that they put my archnemesis in my likes section!
[HE DOESN'T LIKE RANPO EDOGAWA. Sure, Super Deduction is the one thing in the world worth admiring, but that doesn't make him like the man the ability is attached to any better!]
no subject
That's certainly troubling. And there's nothing in six years that could have changed your opinion of him?
no subject
No! Last I remember, he just ruined my life and I was in the beginning stages of planning how I'm going to get revenge on him!
no subject
[Revenge he gets, really.]
...Even if everyone does have memory loss, they might not all know it. I wouldn't have if not for my hair. A time period shorter than years could easily go unnoticed.
no subject
[It took Poe an while to notice his own hair's length change. And that's not good evidence, because it could've been cut while he was unconscious.]
But that brings up even more unwanted implications.... Specifically that whatever caused our memory loss is either extremely inaccurate in how much it erases, or the amount lost between each person corresponds to an set of reasons we are unaware of.
[G R E A T. This just keeps getting better and better.]
no subject
[It's not a good look, no.]
Mine doesn't even have a numerical age, so it's impossible to say exactly how many years I'm missing. But it's been at least three, for my hair to reach this length and condition.
[Condition, ie the fact that it looks like it hasn't been super well cared for in a while. Split ends, thy name is Viral.]
no subject
[Poe just.... sighs.]
At least I'm not the only one missing an large gap of time. That's.... comforting. Even if it's at minimum only half the time I'm apparently missing.
no subject
...The hour's almost up, isn't it? We'd better find out where this... orientation is supposed to be.
