WEEK ONE
[ Well that Orientation... happened. Whether you feel more informed or not, the truth remains. Here you are, within Fayflower University. You have your run of the campus, indoors and out.
There's also your tablets to play with. There are several apps-- and even a game! They didn't leave you without some entertainment. The music is a bit dated though...
And should you wish, there's still time to talk to the "staff" in a more... private setting. The office. They're not hard to find. Well-- your Professor, Han and Megumi aren't. Oswald is a bit more... difficult. ]

[It's.... fairly normal for him. Well. As long as writer block stays away. He's written novels on ridiculously short notice before.]
If anything, this is probably one of my less polished works.... I usually take at least a few days to plan things out, but the inspiration was there and it wasn't like I was going to sleep anyway.

Alright. Do you want an summary of the premise first, or do you want to go in completely blind?

It's a story about a group of six investigators looking into disturbing rumors about a vast cypress forest near an isolated town in Virginia that is named Holloway. The locals of Holloway say that the forest is cursed. That is because most people who enter it vanish. The 'lucky' ones who return come out are far different than they were when they went in. Some are unable to distinguish friend from foe. Others are irrationally paranoid of the world around them. The truly lucky ones emerge sane, but with key parts of their identity twisted into the opposite of what it was before. The investigators only intended to ask around the town itself, but when one of the more impulsive members ventures into the forest and vanishes, the others must unravel the generations old mystery surrounding the forest if they ever want to see their friend again.
[That's probably the most Rebecca's ever heard Poe speak. He gives her more plot details at first than he did to the clown because he's far more fond of her than he ever will be of the clown.... though he's not giving away the twist ending and various morbid secrets that are uncovered. How will he ever know if they work if he just flat out tells her about them?]

[It's a good thing Poe prefers his stories to be more grounded in reality. Once she reads further in the book, she'll find that there are logical explanations for everything. The forest turns out to house in the center of it an secret cultist facility.
The disappearances? collecting new recruits/sacrifices. Those who have escaped's new issues? The result of intensive psychological torture and conditioning experiments on those who were unable to be successfully indoctrinated into the cult. Why the more sane tell no one? they are only let go once they've either snapped to the point no one would listen, or they swear to silence and live out their days as spies to try and spread rumors of paranormal activity to draw those willing to believe in such things into town, as they are the easiest to convince of the existence of their- probably not real -god. It all ends with most members of the group either indoctrinated or insane. The last remaining one manages to escape to the town to try and expose the truth of the forest to the town. However....
The town turns out to be in on it. The rumors provide great tourism revenue for the dying town and they don't care for outsiders. The cultists only target outsiders and the undesirable townsfolk that no one would miss. It's left vague as to what happens to that last protagonist, but the last page describes a new group of aspiring investigators who come into town following up on a missing persons report who's description is suspiciously similar to that last protagonists.]
