Yeah, I do. It's embarrassing... but since my old man was really sick and couldn't become a hero anymore, I decided that I would become a hero in his place since he wasn't able to. He did a lot for me, so I wanted to give back, I guess.

You decides to do that all because of your dad? [Oh. Well...]

Guess if you're doing what you want to do. I never really chose what I wanted to do with my life, it was already decided for me by the other people in the village, once my big sister left to become a lawyer.

[It's rougher than she makes it sound, but that's how Maya does things.]

Yeah. He saved my life one day... and honestly, that's why I always wanted to repay him. For doing what I couldn't do at the time.

[Her expression dims. It seemed so easy to talk about at the start, but now the entirety of that trial is coming back in full force.]

[ There's a bit of regret on his expression when he hears those words, and it causes him to swallow and lower his head. ]

No... it's okay. At least, now it is. We found out who did it, and got him for it. That guy was a piece of work, that's for sure.

[She can't even remember Redd White's name. Purposefully so. He doesn't deserve it.]

Plus... [She offers Shirou a smile, tight, but it's there.] My cousin, Pearl, channeled her for me a few months ago. I actually got to see her again.

[ There's relief in his response and a soft smile that he seems to show her, but it seems to fade into confusion when she says-- ]

Thanks. That's the kind of thing I think other people should be able to see, you know? If I did that as a medium... if that worked...

[She looks off for a moment, wistful, then ultimately shakes her head.]

If I could actually do my job as a medium, that would be great.

[So far though, it hasn't been working out.]

You know... maybe if you could, I'd definitely ask you to help me with something, as a medium. I mean. If I'm allowed to hire you, or whatever.

You absolutely are! Spirit mediums used to be hired to help with special cases! I'll even be sure to give you a discount!

A discount, huh... well, if we get out of here, I'd definitely like to ask for you to channel my old man for my sister. They never really managed to properly say goodbye.

[That catches her, for a moment, at least. Then she's nodding excitedly.]

Of course! Anything for a friend, and especially for family! That's something they both deserve.

I think family is really important, and Illya, she-- [...] We're not related by blood, but my old man is important to her, more than anything.

Family is super important! The ones that care about you, and you care about them, that's the best thing there is. Even if they're not actually related to you! I have a pretty great family like that myself.

[Because all her immediate family is dead whoops.]

[ Since Shirou's blood related family are kind of dead, too. ]
