I can't die, Lieutenant. I'm not alive.

[ connor is quiet for a moment. obviously, they'd had their Tuesday Conversation already. and thats all the deets i can give on that one

Doesn't that, I dunno, scare you?

[ Maybe Hank wants to know Connor's alive..... ]

I am a machine, you know that.

[ but he sounds like he's trying to convince himself, too. ]

[ Maybe that should scare him, to think that Connor can be scared, but it doesn't. It's scarier to think he could die and it would be nothing. It's a memory he doesn't have yet, but boy it sure would suck if he had it!! ]

Doesn't mean you gotta be in a hurry to die.

[ He is happy, actually. Like in a screwed up way because Hank is pretty screwed up about death, after all. But he is appeased. ]

Well, that's good.

[ It means you're alive, Connor. ]

I don't want to talk about this anymore.

[ he swims over to the edge of the pool and gets out; needless to say he doesn't feel like swimming anymore. he admitted something bad. he's a machine -- he's not alive, he can't be afraid, he certainly can't be afraid to die. he just needs some time alone to forget about all of this. to focus. ]

Yeah, alright.

[ Hank feels kind of bad now too, putting the fear of death into an android... and all while they're hanging in the pool? C'mon, man. ]

Nothing wrong with wanting to live, Connor. It's better than a lot of people.

[ connor stops, half-way out of the pool. he doesn't turn around, barely moving. he understands what hank is telling him. he's got a highly advanced social protocol, after all. but he wasn't made to help humans with their problems; he isn't a social worker or a psychologist. most of what he does involves exploiting feelings, not assisting with them.

but there's no way he can just leave this.

so he turns around to look at hank. ]

You can't die. I'm your responsibility now.

[ Hank makes a face, something between a grimace and a smile. ]

Oh, yeah?

[ He chuckles, trying to hide how empty it sounds. A hot android is telling him not to die and yet Hank still feels like he's got a pit in his stomach, eating away at him, begging for something to numb the pain. ]

Guess so.

[ God, he could use a drink. ]

Yes.

[ his voice is gentle, but also firm. ]

You pushed me into talking about something that I shouldn't -- I shouldn't even be able to understand. You can't do that and then leave me alone.

[ That definitely makes Hank smile a bit. Somehow hearing Connor admit it makes him feel like he did something right? Or maybe Hank's just a petty asshole and he wants Connor to feel things so he's not the only lucky asshole who doesn't have to deal with feelings. Who knows. ]

Can't just give you feelings and leave you alone, can I? That's your logic here?

[preconstruction]

[ he deflates a little. he doesn't want to agree on the feelings part, but he needs to get hank to say he'll stay alive. at least for awhile. ]

Alright, fine. I'll see what I can do.

[ Hank snorts. He never would have guessed an android would be giving him this talk. ]

Not like I have the stones to get it over with, anyway. Don't worry about it.

[ He's a little touched that Connor cares, though. ]

[preconstruction]

[ connor gets back into the pool and swims over to where hank and that dumb duck are. ]

Lieutenant, I...

[ he wishes he were better equipped for this. he wants to tell him he'd listen, if he wants to talk. but he knows that hank won't accept that. it's likely just to make him angrier. sympathy won't work, so instead he changes tactic. ]

Let's not give this place any more satisfication than it's alright got, alright?

Yeah, alright.

[ Hank smiles somewhat grimly. This is definitely the worst place to be having suicidal thoughts, that's for sure. ]

I can't promise shit, Connor. But I can try.

We'll get home. Together.

[ it's a promise. ]

[ the pact is sealed. ]

I think I'll get out of the pool now, and...
