[Entrance Exam] Arrival

You wake up. There’s a dull, throbbing pain in your head that lasts for a few moments. You’re slightly disoriented at first, but once you come to your senses, you realize that you are not where you were last. You lift your head and realize that you're sitting at a desk. You aren’t quite sure where this is, exactly, but from what you can tell--desk and all--this appears to be some sort of...fancy classroom. Maybe there are others in the room who are as lost and confused as you are; maybe you’re the only one. At least you’re not in the dark. The room is well-lit, giving you a proper view of the blue and silver designs that make up the school’s colors.

You feel something around your wrist, so look down at your hands and notice a strange sort of bracelet. Some of you may be able to discern that it's some sort of Fitbit, but try as you might, you cannot remove it.

You only have a few more seconds to process what’s happening before you hear something buzzing on the desk you’re sitting at.

It appears to be a tablet of some sort. It turns on automatically due to a notification that pops up on the screen. The notification reads, “Good morning, Prospect. Welcome to Fayflower University’s Entrance Exam!”

There’s a “Next” button that leads you to another notification: “Please spend the next hour introducing yourself to your fellow Prospects. More information on your peers can be found on the "Profiles" app. Failure to engage will result in punishment. Be sure to adhere to the rules, which can be found in an application called “Rules” on this device.”

There’s one last notification: “When the hour is up, report to the Gymnasium immediately for your Orientation. You will be given further information and instruction there.”

You exit out of the notification. You now understand what the notification means: the tablet has four applications: Rules, Tasks, Profiles, and Maps. If you try to click on the Tasks app, another notification pops up indicating that the application is currently unaccessible. The Maps app only shows you a map of the building you're in right now. There's a little marker indicating your location as well: The one and only classroom in the vicinity.

A large red timer appears at the bottom of the screen. 59:59.

You'd better get started.

Ohh! So you can understand me! Cool. I thought only Tim could do that.

I'm a Pikachu. Right in the name, buddy. Why, never seen one before?
enjoymyatelier: i think he's fucking her navel (that position is bizarre and improbable)

No. I have literally never seen a Pikachu before.

...

Do you just... call yourself by your species name?

Well, yeah? Harry never gave me a nickname, so I'm just Pikachu. Detective Pikachu.

... I suppose the "Detective" part works as a name, but what if you're in a group of other Pikachu who don't have nicknames? How do you distinguish yourselves? I suppose you could run into a group of humans who are all named John, but...

i didnt expect that playing detective pikachu would lead to me expanding so much on my pkmn lore hcs

[he shrugs.]

It depends. If they're all wild, I'd identify them by scent, distinguishing marks, scars... Some packs will give each other basic names related to where they were born and stuff. But if a human captures them and gives them a nickname, that name takes precedent. Humans usually can't exactly understand Pokemon, after all, so there'd be no way for them to tell their trainers what their original name was.

And of course, Pikachu born while owned by humans are usually given nicknames by their parents, but its the same situation- if their trainer gives them a nickname, that takes precedent.
enjoymyatelier: he's only attractive when drawn by takeuchi (what a cool guy)

Oh. I see. Honestly, that actually makes sense. I'm not a zoologist by any means, but that seems like it fits in with what I've read about when it comes to animals.

So I'm guessing Pokemon are just what they call animals where you're from?
detectivepika: (04)

[personal profile] detectivepika 2018-05-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, basically. Though Pokemon also have powers like breathing fire and psychic manipulation, and I don't think the animals we descended from can do that.

What, really? Actually, there were creatures in my world that used to have abilities like that, but they've basically all disappeared by now. That's basically the opposite of your world.

[personal profile] detectivepika 2018-05-25 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, really? That's weird. You'd think evolution would aim more for keeping weird powers and stuff like that.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-05-26 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's more about the general decline of magic than evolution, per se. It's not like your average dog or cat used to have magical powers and then lost them, it's more like phantasmal creatures like dragons have effectively vanished from the world.

[personal profile] detectivepika 2018-05-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Vanished? What happened to 'em?

I see- in my case, all creatures have powers, even the ones that descended from dogs and cats. Not just dragon-types.
enjoymyatelier: no seriously what are you doing (uhhhhhhhh....)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2018-05-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they were magical in nature, so there just wasn't enough magic in the world anymore to sustain them.

But that's... definitely something, alright.
