[Entrance Exam] Arrival

You wake up. There’s a dull, throbbing pain in your head that lasts for a few moments. You’re slightly disoriented at first, but once you come to your senses, you realize that you are not where you were last. You lift your head and realize that you're sitting at a desk. You aren’t quite sure where this is, exactly, but from what you can tell--desk and all--this appears to be some sort of...fancy classroom. Maybe there are others in the room who are as lost and confused as you are; maybe you’re the only one. At least you’re not in the dark. The room is well-lit, giving you a proper view of the blue and silver designs that make up the school’s colors.

You feel something around your wrist, so look down at your hands and notice a strange sort of bracelet. Some of you may be able to discern that it's some sort of Fitbit, but try as you might, you cannot remove it.

You only have a few more seconds to process what’s happening before you hear something buzzing on the desk you’re sitting at.

It appears to be a tablet of some sort. It turns on automatically due to a notification that pops up on the screen. The notification reads, “Good morning, Prospect. Welcome to Fayflower University’s Entrance Exam!”

There’s a “Next” button that leads you to another notification: “Please spend the next hour introducing yourself to your fellow Prospects. More information on your peers can be found on the "Profiles" app. Failure to engage will result in punishment. Be sure to adhere to the rules, which can be found in an application called “Rules” on this device.”

There’s one last notification: “When the hour is up, report to the Gymnasium immediately for your Orientation. You will be given further information and instruction there.”

You exit out of the notification. You now understand what the notification means: the tablet has four applications: Rules, Tasks, Profiles, and Maps. If you try to click on the Tasks app, another notification pops up indicating that the application is currently unaccessible. The Maps app only shows you a map of the building you're in right now. There's a little marker indicating your location as well: The one and only classroom in the vicinity.

A large red timer appears at the bottom of the screen. 59:59.

You'd better get started.

[Hearing all that makes him chuckle.]

Hoarding secrets is the bread and butter of a consulting detective's work, I'd say! I'm afraid I've yet to tangle with any Lovecraftian horrors.

Oh...well, that's how it is with movies and books. No giant alligators eating people and stuff.

[ still, that does seem to give him an idea. ]

Do you know anything about Jack the Ripper?
revelare: (IGNORE THAT DETAIL)

[personal profile] revelare 2018-05-20 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[His answer is blithe and totally vague.]

I would hope I do, for his murders occurred during my lifetime.

Well, obviously. But...

[ he gestures. it's a little more difficult without his actual servant or the catalyst. ]

You don't remember who they were right? 'Cause I got a...friend that really wants to know.

[ and that friend just so happens to be jack the ripper ]

[A friend, huh? Sherlock remains silent for a moment, expression neutral as he analyzes the magus before him.]

I am afraid I wasn't involved in the Ripper case. My apologies, Mister Escardos. I am one who sheds lights upon mysteries but I cannot speak for the results of a case I was not present for.

Oh. Well, that's fine.

[ he looks somewhat dejected by the fact, but not too much. not because he doesn't care, but because hey-- when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! ]

You see, I'm actually in a Grail War right now. And my Servant is Jack the Ripper but...they don't really know who they are. [ a pause, his smile distant for a moment. ] Which is fine, you know?! I don't think it's really necessary to know who the culprit of the murders was but... it's their wish from the Grail.

So, as their friend, I thought I could try and figure it out while I was here. But it seems I can't do that. [ he shrugs. ] Oh, well!

[So it's that way.

Heroic Spirits drew pride and strength from their legends. Jack the Ripper was more urban legend than a concrete figure - such an existence wouldn't normally qualify as a spirit but his reign of terror had been so great that it made him a unique exception. Had Jack's true identity been discovered, his myth would have died. His wish, then, to know who he was... it could be seen as tragic.

Holmes isn't good at offering comfort, so he doesn't. Flat seems to have moved on, so he follows his lead.]

You've provided yourself the solution, Mr. Escardos. If your Servant is willing to traverse hell and back with you, that wish will be an easy one to fulfill. For now, it would be best to focus on figuring out a manner of escape.

[ certainly enough, flat is not one to stay upset for too long. instead, he bounces right back with the same amount of energy. so when sherlock reassures him, that's more than enough comfort for him. ]

Right, the exit!

[ he looks around, as if trying to figure out something-- anything at all. it's a lot more difficult without his ability and, of course, he can't come up with anything. and that, on it's own, is a little unsettling for him. ]

You know, I don't think we're gonna be able to leave this place unless they want to. You're a Heroic Spirit, right Mr. Holmes? That means that you should have more abilities than a normal Magus-- but you're still here, too.
