 [ Week 2 has begun. It's quiet and calm on campus so far, and you definitely aren't being called out for more. You know. BS or icebreakers. The wall is still deceptively easy to hop over, the birds are singing, Todd's somewhere on campus.

If it's just food, is there a reason why you're talkin' to it?

I-I'm not talking to it. That would be silly, I'm just- in my own head, that's all.

[unhalting]

Either way, it looks like there's something on your mind.

[While he leaves it at that, he leans against the wall with his arms crossed, looking towards her.]

[ For a few moments, she's quiet. But... ]

Who...do you think gives us these? These...boxes of things? Who chooses them? Why?

[unhalting]

[He continues to watch her silently as she talks. When she finishes, there's a pause as he closes his eyes in consideration.]

Don't know about the who, but I doubt it's anyone higher up in the food chain who has the time to sort these out. As for the why... some of the stuff's definitely put here on purpose, but a lot of it's garbage too. I figure they're just taunting us.

...It's cruel. Those people, they act all friendly, but then toy with us, dumping this...this junk.

[ She blows out a breath, shaking her head. Just push it aside. That's all she's going to do. ]

[unhalting]

[He opens an eye to look over, just barely tilting his head to peek a little more clearly into the box before switching his focus over to the wall in front of him.]

...Well, no one decent'd be involved in something like this, so I'd say this is par the course. But if it's that big of a deal to you, then it's better to just toss 'em out so you don't have to look at it.

Someone could probably use some of it. [ She sighs; Belle would be cross with her, for throwing out food. ]

...I'm sure I look and sound somewhat mad, don't I? All worked up over something like this.

[unhalting]

...Yeah, you do. [He can't really say he understands what's going through her mind at all, and he definitely can't relate to being so shaken by something that looks so innocuous. But--]

I'm guessin' you have your reasons, though.

[throwabookatit]

Yes, they... [ She trails off, and then abruptly shakes her head, deciding to stand. ] Just...some stuff, from back home. It'll be fine, eventually. Just...something that reminded me of someone.

[unhalting]

Is that right. [His brows furrow a little as he looks considering of something or other for a moment or two, but... ultimately it's not in his nature to pry too deeply about these kinds of things. He uncrosses his arms, slips his hands into his pockets and leans forward as he kicks off lightly from the wall. As he straightens up, he gives her an appraising look.]

Anyway, I'll leave you to your thoughts, then. Just try not to get too caught up in 'em again.

[ A small, forced...not-quite-smile makes its way on to her face. ]

Yes, that's probably...a good idea, isn't it? [ ... ] Uh, thank you. For- I mean, for asking, despite...all of this.

hands on shoulder... i know that feel

[unhalting]

[Lady, you're kind of worrying him again?? He closes his eyes and lets out a small exhale before opening an eye to stare back.]

You really sure you're gonna be okay?

[throwabookatit]

[ There's a moment of pause, as if she's considering. It... ]

Eventually. It's something only time will heal.

[unhalting]

[Only time, huh...]

Just as long as you keep pushing forward.

[throwabookatit]

Of course. I wouldn't...let something like this break me.

[unhalting]

[He gives her an intent stare before he finally nods in response. As far as he's concerned, there isn't a need to say any more when she's dealing with things her own way. And so, he turns on his heel to make his exit.]
