WEEK 2

[ Week 2 has begun. It's quiet and calm on campus so far, and you definitely aren't being called out for more. You know. BS or icebreakers. The wall is still deceptively easy to hop over, the birds are singing, Todd's somewhere on campus.

Welcome to week 2 of classes everyone. ]
tannic: crashing down fast as fragile as glass (don't pull the rug out from underneath u)

[He's French. Even when you're poor, food looks like you're about to take a picture of it for a shitty recipe blog where the pictures are gorgeous and artsy but there's like six thousand words of some story about a dead grandmother that nobody cares about because they probably clicked on the link so, y'know. They could get a recipe.

This? This looks like pig slop.]

I see. [It's fine. She wouldn't try to poison everyone, so it has to be edible.] And it's a dish from the British Isles?

throwabookatit: (oh yeah)

[ Grantaire, you need to get your head out of your French expectations, ok.

She nods. ]
It's Scottish. Grew up eating it.

tannic: not finally diminish (oh how could anyone)

I've rarely had occasion to be outside of Paris, [Not even France, just Paris.] so all the food here is . . . interesting. This, at least, is ingredients I understand.

[IT'S UGLY BUT HE'S EATING IT, OK.]
throwabookatit: (when you're standing next to me)

[personal profile] throwabookatit 2018-08-23 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, right. With your...history, I can imagine...why that would be difficult. [ still...digesting this one... ] Well, in any case. It's good. And good for you.
tannic: in line to catch the morning train (years later on i saw your face)

It's hard to go wrong with potatoes and beef, in my experience.

[They're poor students. They eat a lot of bread, but when they do eat actual food it's usually stuff like this.]
throwabookatit: (deep)

A versatile combination. [ But, she looks at him expectantly. Well?? Does he like it??? ]
tannic: if there's no one beside you (their vacancy signs)

[If he wasn't used to people watching him eat - whether it be because someone finally figured out he'd forgotten to eat or because he's breakfasting with friends - he might find it a bit weird. As it is:]

My compliments to the chef. It might not look the prettiest, but it's certainly delicious.

[ c: c: c: ]

Looks aren't everything, ya know. But the chef will certainly accept those compliments.
tannic: so if heaven and hell decide (and i heard every word that he said)

[personal profile] tannic 2018-08-24 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Of course they're not. Nobody would tolerate my presence if that was the case.

[Fun Les Mis fact: Grantaire is pretty explicitly described as the "homely" to Enjolras' ~savage Antinous~.]

But they say you eat with your eye before your stomach.
throwabookatit: (feeling serene)

[personal profile] throwabookatit 2018-08-24 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
They do? I haven't heard that one before... Difference in time, it must be.
tannic: i'll be at the barricade (meet me at the barricade)

[personal profile] tannic 2018-08-24 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
In time, in country. [He shrugs.] I'm afraid I only really know about the politics and art of other countries, not the culture.
throwabookatit: (all i wanna hear is that you)

[personal profile] throwabookatit 2018-08-24 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I've a lot of general history knowledge, though the finer points of art and culture elude me, so I suppose we're working on common ground.
tannic: now i will never let you go (it is not supposed to be easy)

[personal profile] tannic 2018-08-24 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Enjolras is always saying it's important to have people with different experiences and different skills talk. It fosters discussion, and those who don't think like you can often . . . fill in the gaps, as it were.

[There's something slightly different in his voice when he speaks about Enjolras, as opposed to any of his other friends: he doesn't sound fond, exactly? It's more of a . . . longing, maybe.]

[ ...Hm. Hmmm. That... Rebecca tilts her head just a little, focuses her eyes. She's a bit of an advantage over Grantaire, in this regard, but- well. Even if she hadn't a vague familiarity, she...

...she recognizes that tone, a little. ]

I...think I would agree. Those who're exactly alike, they can't learn new things from one another. At least, not in the same way. Do you think...we're drawn to those, who're different?
