WEEK 3

 [ Week 3 rolls around the corner-- with all the loss of joy after the trial. Can you keep up hope after everything that's happened? On top of that... it would seem that that whatever has effected your memories here-- it's beginning to wear away.

You're not stuck in the same place forever. Ssssort of, anyway. The stairs in the main building appear to have been uplocked and now... now you have access to a whole new floor of rooms. At least that's something!

If they can take away our memories, then I should be less surprised they can project figures from our memory as well.

[ .... He sighs, but does offer a hand to Shirou to help him up. ]

It's uncomfortable.

[ And Shirou will take that hand to get right up. It's a help, at least. ]

That's true. But... it looks like they messed up, somehow. [ He thinks it might be karma, but also. ] I agree that it's unsettling, though. Did you see someone that you know?

[ Even though his voice is a little shaken up still, he feels like he has to know. Curiosity killed the cat, and all that. Not to mention that it's even more worrying when the face you see is someone you remember and yet, shouldn't at the same time.

It's the kind of feeling that makes him feel like there's something wrong with him. ]

[ There's a pause, and then he smiles - small and a little hollow. ]

Yeah. One of my friends from back home. Someone I'm more used to having around than not.

[ He runs an uncertain hand through his hair, before shaking his head. No point in dwelling on it now. He misses his friends, deeply, and the possibility he'll see them unsettles him. It's easier not to miss people if he isn't reminded of them... but at the same time, it soothes and eases him as well.

Like seeing a photo of someone you haven't seen in a while. ]

Did you see someone you know...?

[swordsinternally]

[ That smile, as small as it is, gives him a strange comfort -- although he feels a bit of guilt at it, too. This really, really sucks. ]

It was someone that I know... but shouldn't. Someone that I vaguely remember meeting, but shouldn't have met yet. Not at this point in time.

... You remember meeting them but also that you shouldn't have met them?

[ Uh... ]

How can you tell?

[ Shirou just nods, trying his best to gather his thoughts together even though he's very much aware of how muddled his memories are. ]

Not that they're a bad person to meet, rather... I shouldn't have had the experience of meeting them yet, I guess.

So... it's like Schrödinger's Cat of memories? You shouldn't know about them or meeting them because it hasn't happened... but at some point it has so you do.

[ Yikes. ]

[swordsinternally]

Something like that? But it's less Schrödinger's Cat and, uh... how do I explain it? My situation back home is more like a Groundhog Day loop. I met her outside of the current loop, which is why I don't really recall entirely the experience of meeting her, but I know that it happened.

So they can take your memories, but they can't take your memories because you're on a giant loop.

[ Shirou, he's already getting a headache thinking of that one. ]

It surprised you though.

I mean.... I think who I saw and my memories about it has nothing to do with the administration, though. It did surprise me, since it wasn't who I expected. Since I don't know her that well. I don't even know her name.

This sounds really complicated. Can you still see her now?

[swordsinternally]

My hometown is weird. [...that's not a lie] But no, she's gone.

[covertizer]

[ No kidding, boi. ]

Alright. I... don't think they're going to actually hurt us, physically at least. So, if you see her again I guess you'll be prepared?

[swordsinternally]

I guess... although she said something that was weird.

[covertizer]

Oh? Did you want to talk about it?

[ ... Huh. ]

Mine didn't talk to me... even though I know he could. [ Should he feel insulted, Morgana? ]

[swordsinternally]

Yeah. I don't mind. It was a short sentence, anyway. She said something about how I... don't remember who I am. But that's weird, isn't it? How can I be someone else other than me?

[covertizer]

[ Um. Hm? ]

That's a weird statement. Unless there's something in the memories they've taken from you that suggests otherwise, you're still Emiya.

I know I'm still me...

[swordsinternally]

Yeah, it's definitely weird. Maybe I'll hopefully remember it if those words really have any actual meaning. But I want to believe that... I'm actually Emiya Shirou. Not anybody else.

[ He can't possibly be anyone besides himself, right? ]

[covertizer]

If you say you are then... why should you think you're anyone else?

[ Who knows - they're missing whole chunks of their own memories, but... ]

For what it's worth, I only know one Emiya Shirou. I can't think of who else he could be.

[swordsinternally]

You're right, Kurusu. [ He tries to smile, even though he knows it's something forced. ] Thanks.

[covertizer]

[ A smile is better than no smile in this case. So he just... reaches out and taps Shirou's chin, light and fleeting. ]

Just keep remembering that. Hallucinations are just that. They're not actually there, no matter how unsettling they may be.

I'll... try to remember that.

[ "Try" being the key word here. ]
