Second Study Session

After last week, you'd all hope that this wouldn't come to pass again. Yet, after the third week you've all had maybe some of you may have begun to feel a creeping dread. There are a few different reactions to have when you wake up on Friday morning and look around. The hallucinations and the voices are all gone. Get up and walk around, but they're nowhere to be found now; just a memory now.

What's left is the why. Maybe you've all passed.

Or just maybe... you should hurry and check the main building.

I have to be able to save everyone. It's... hypocritical, maybe, but I think it's a beautiful dream that I want to achieve. I guess it's just simply that I don't want to see anybody cry. If I could help prevent horrible things happening to everyone, I... I want to be able to do that. Is it wrong?

[ There's definite conviction in his voice, but there's something almost forlorn about it as well. But when Akira seems to ask the second question, he chews a little bit on his lower lip, nodding his head. ]

Yeah. They were trying to kill me, and there were a massive amount of them... almost enough to engulf the whole city. They were asking to 'grant their wish'. Screaming at me for death. That why am I the only one to survive. I could feel the hatred, the agony-- there was so much.

... No, it's not wrong. [ But it's not that simple. ] I just don't know if it's possible. What makes one person happy, and give them comfort, might cause incredible pain to someone one.

And then where do you go from there? [ ... Going into politics was Haru's father's goal, but to do so he hurt his daughter immensely. And in trying to save him, so they could go back to being happy together... they'd caused Haru just as much pain. He doesn't believe that all happiness comes at the cost of someone else, but sometimes it does. ]

A wish...? [ Like... pure emotions? Violent, pure emotion? ] What were they after? Why were they trying to kill you...?

My old man... he told me that, too. That saving one person meant not being able to save somebody else.

[ So he actually understands that much. ]

I don't know. I honestly don't, but-- I'll figure something out.

[ Once again, he nods. ]

Yeah. Someone told me that's what they were saying. But... I don't know what they were after. Or why they were trying to kill me or envelop the town.

I think it's a fair assessment. But... assuming that means you might not look for ways you can help everyone. It's probably more about balance than anything.

I've probably hurt people as much as I've helped the, but I don't think it wasn't worth it.

[ ... Geez. ]

You... were okay though? If it's a memory and you're here now then... you survived it?

... Yeah. But as long as my goal is there, I'll still have something to strive for.

[ That's what he thinks, anyway. ]

Ah-- actually. I haven't been able to survive them whenever I do see them. I seem to die every time, as far as I remember.
