WEEK 6

[Week six comes like an ominous wave. If anything, the wall is more threatening that it's ever been. That sign from last week? Looks aged-- like it's far more than just a week old. But more than that, it feels like something is waiting to snap this week. What could possibly go wrong, after last week?

Said no one ever, at this point.

But still, if you look around this week, you might find out something. It's like someone has started leaving clues in places old and new. Take a look around.]

[Gogol closes the door behind them, and sets himself down on the bed with the penguin, still hugging onto it. He hums and kicks his legs, and looks over to Poe with a grin.]

But you said it was an apology gift too, right?

I did.

[Poe hesitates slightly... but sits down next to him on the bed as well. It's... more or less the same position as they were in after Rebecca this way.]

... I... um... felt bad about upsetting you during the conversation we had after Rebecca...ah... passed.

[The theory about what the administration could do with the dead... and... essentially verbally dissecting him during the game.]

[Gogol gives the plush a squeeze.]

Unbelievable, caring about a thing like that.

[He rests his head on the plush's.]

What are we going to do with you, Detective?

Yes... caring about upsetting a friend. Truly... it's preposterous.

[It's sarcastic, but it's in more of a joking tone of voice than anything else.]

Nothing. I'd... um.. like to think you can't get rid of me at this point.

[Gogol makes a little jabbing motion towards Poe's stomach.]

I could always kill you.

Cute.

[Poe doesn't look threatened in the slightest. He looks more amused than anything.]

You're not going to kill me here... and I don't plan on interfering with your plans at home. You have no reason to kill me.

[He pauses and tilts his head to the side.]

Well... unless Dostoevsky orders you to... but I see no reason for him to do so.

[Gogol smiles knowingly to himself. There's a missing option, but he won't say it.]

I don't think Dos-kun would, either. I guess I'm stuck with you.

[He doesn't sound hung up on it, though.]

You don't sound upset about that outcome.

[Poe... can't see he could have ever saw this outcome coming at the beginning of this... but he thinks he's happy with it.]

[It's still something that weighs on his guilt, but, there's something in it that's started to be easier to ignore.]

I've simply come to accept it.

Mhm.... We've become quite the pair, haven't we?

[He gestures between them.]

I... don't think either of us could have predicted this at the beginning.

[He laughs.]

It's quite a twist, isn't it?

It's the sort of thing you'd expect to find more in fiction than in real life.

[But.... here they are.]

Maybe we're just in one of your books and neither of us know it!

[If so: where's all the gothic aesthetics, Poe??]

This is a premise I would have found interesting... but the setting is all wrong.

[There's no Gothic aesthetics.]

Oh, but it's got excellent metaphorical value, hasn't it?

I.... suppose it does.

[Still...]

It's... really lost it's charm as an concept once you've actually had to go through it though.

Well, maybe for you.

I take it you still find the concept an fun one?

Oh, it's downright terrible! That's why it's funny!

.... The only thing vaguely comedic about this situation is how we all can't stop killing each other despite the killers continuing to get caught over and over again.

Haha! It's exactly that! Everyone claims to be righteous, good people, but they can't stop committing acts of violence and sin!

It's true... but it's also not that simple. Everyone can be pushed to kill with the right motive. Good people can be pushed to do horrible things.

Then their ideals were never that strong. They know they're being manipulated, but they kill anyway? It only proves an underlying sin in all of us.

So? Everyone has underlying sin or gains it eventually. It's... nothing special.

That’s right. Everyone is sinful. It’s nothing special. That’s the whole point.
