I don't think it's people susceptible to manipulation you have to worry about, really. [There's a crazy clown.] It might become an issue in the future, but in my experience people who murder generally do it because they would have anyway.

[In the 19th century, you could just murder people and the cops would look down on your work like "hm, this shit is too complicated let's go get a drink."]

Most people are capable of murder when pushed far enough. It just depends on which buttons you push and how hard you push them. Even the kindest people can become murderers.

But there are people that just kill for the sake of it. Psychopaths and whatnot. Those...don't need a reason to kill.

Exactly. Think about it: why would you bring survivors from the previous experiment here knowing you couldn't keep them from spreading this information unless you were hoping the information would spread? They went so far as to bring one of them late.

The Administrators...they said that they have some sort of immunity to the hijacking. What if...they're trying to see which one of us is able to become immune to it? Similar to how you'd inject small quantities of poisons to create a resistance, they might be putting us under stress to see which ones will resist.

Those that do will become "heroes".

I would think you wouldn't have murders happen randomly if that's the case. There's too much chance you'll kill what you're looking for. [What happens if you kill the "hero" you're creating after all?] No, this seems more like a ritual of sorts.

If you can't defend yourself, then that would mean that you're not fit for being a hero either. Maybe they're trying to implement something like 'survival of the fittest'.

[ he shrugs. ]

Besides, what kind of ritual are you talking about?

Well, it's just the sort of thing that seems more mystical than scientific. It's disingenuous to think that the Apprentice Survivor is on the same level as the Apprentice of Gaming, in terms of ability to be a "hero," by their definition, but if you think about it more like a ritual it would make sense: take twenty-something people, all of different skills, and make them perform a specific task in order to summon a "hero," as it were.

[Not that he thinks that's better, but it makes more sense that way.]

Hah? You don't need something as complicated as that to summon a hero. That's out of the question.

Perhaps not where you come from, but rituals are tied to a place are they not? Wherever we are is not where we are from - or when we are from, as the case may be.
