[Entrance Exam] Week One

It would seem that it will be... some time before you're released. Two weeks. That may sound like forever, in this situation. But you aren't left with nothing to do. The Administrator has been kind enough to update the Tasks application on your tablet. There are also now several different tasks that you can accept. Who knows... you might get something good out of it. It's worth checking out at least. There are also several other new applications you can toy with, too.

And you won't go hungry. The staff is here to prepare meals three times a day. Breakfast is served from 6AM-8AM, lunch from 11PM-1PM, and dinner from 5PM-7PM. You'd best make sure you're in the cafeteria in time for those meals, because they won't be waiting around all day for you. They have lives, too. Unfortunately, you won't really be able to ask them about any of that. The serving area is separated by a glass wall, through which they serve you. Even if you try asking-- it would seem they have been told not to answer.

The rest... well. You may just have to see for yourself. At least you're not alone.

It's simply a term of endearment. [ a...pause, then: ] However, I've noticed that people here aren't taking to it very well. [ hmm. ] I will simply call you Max, if you wish.

Ouch!! [ a beat. ] Eh? Wait, that didn't hurt. Natsume, your wimpy punches are getting even wimpier!

[ he manages to get that out as he smooshes himself through the new crack in the door with all the strength he can muster. he's in, he's in!! and he does a happy little twirl just before moving to dive into the nearest bed—which thankfully might not have been jake's and even if it was, jake sitting upright stops him anyway. ]

Ah! See that, all your screeching woke him up!! [ for some reason this makes him preen and he points pretty dramatically at jake while giving a look that totally says "this is your fault, not mine, neener neener". ] You did it!

... He talks too, huh? They've got a lot of talking animals here... I wonder if that was what they were looking for, when they plucked us from our homes?

[ Hm. ]

That's not a bad idea. If something goes missing, we'll know. Using your skills for good is never a bad thing.

Chicken. But they put some fancy stuff on the edges - wasn't sure if you'd be interested in that so... it's off? But it's there if you want to try it.

[ He nods at it. ]

It's vegetables, with some kind of breadcrumb mix added to it.

Icebreakers are pretty common, you know. The ocean question's on almost every list you can bring up on the net...

[She doesn't seem like she understands exactly.]

I figured they were looking for people with supernatural or otherwise special abilities. Animals being able to talk and potentially solve mysteries fits under that umbrella.

[Purses her lips...]

People don't take to it very well because it's totally something people only call other people if they're flirting with or dating them.

Freshwater. That way no one would be suffering from drought, and most of the animals would be fine because it's still water.

...it was a school for those of exceptional talent, that hasn't changed.

They... gave me a place where I could work on my robots. They funded my studies, in exchange for my work. I wouldn't have found... a better opportunity.

Robotics... expanding upon what's possible... that's what I want to do.

... Do you have a supernatural ability then? If you're making that as the baseline for why we were selected, then it's probably something you can relate to.

I see... My apologies, then, Max. I truly did not mean to cause you discomfort. This sort of thing has been widely accepted among my fans and comrades back at home, so I did not realize it would translate so poorly here.

Saltwater fish can't live in freshwater! Congratulations, you just murdered almost everything living in the ocean!

[Folds her arms!!!]

See? It's a trick question. You kill the marine life no matter what.

...Also, freshwater barely counts as a different liquid.

You wanted to turn the ocean into oil? That kills everything living in the ocean...

[ Shrug. ]

If I said soda, you'd be mad about that too.

[The impact between his fist and Sensei's face would probably feel a little more satisfying if:

1. Sensei wasn't calling him out on how pathetic his punches were, and
2. If he wasn't punching someone with the same face

So as it is, it was just a tiny bit weird, especially when his roommate sits up. Well damn... Natsume just turns to stare back at Jake, looking like a deer in headlights.]

I do, but no way of proving it, so you probably wouldn't even believe me.

[She looks down at the photo she just took and laughs, just a bit. He looks a lot less suspicious like this.]

Oooh, I see! Well, there's nothing wrong with that! As long as they make you happy, then you can consider them part of your family; no need to be related to them by blood.

It feels a bit like someone carved a chunk out of me and left a gap where it was. Plus, explaining it is... impossible, really.

Hopefully not. Whatever they're planning here, I just want to get through it and go home.
