Week 4

[ It's now Week 4 at Fayflower University. With the new week comes another memory, and a new floor to explore. That's nice, after everything, right? Right, of course it is.

However, other things have changed besides the floor access. The wall has always been a point of contention after the fiasco in week one. And then the frog, and now the investigation. However, going within three feet of the wall is oppressive now, in feeling. It feels as though you're being watched-- and targeted for something.

I'd...appreciate that, really. It's both, but today I'm really just looking for something to do rather than think about this place.

[ An idea comes to her. ]

...You don't have to read out of a book, though, you know. Conversation could do well, too.

[ Hold up he's... feeling his way over to a nearby seat like someone took his sight, not his ability to figure out how to not smack into things. Once safely deposited in the chair, he sighs. And then looks back over at Rebecca. ]

If you have something you really need to check out, I can read it to you. Or ... do you mind me asking what you're looking for here? Just general information?

Oh, I'm just looking for anything that I can reliably recognize as being from this world. The books are from all over, after all, so...it makes researching this blasted place difficult.

Sorting through countless different versions of history is...time-consuming.

Ah... so, finding a needle in a haystack. When the needle has probably been hidden as muh as it can be.

[ But... really, where better to hide a book than in a library. ]

How much of this place have you searched?

Uh... Well, thoroughly I've searched through about...50 books I'd say, so far.

[ She taps one on the table. ]

Like this. [ ...It's large. ][ Not enough to make a dent in this place, but...

Fifty is a lot... and that's not even dented this place?

[ It doesn't surprise him? Just looking around at this whole place and seeing all of the books everywhere and... yeah. That's a monumental task that Rebecca has taken on.]

And this reading thing just delays it. [ ... ] Do you need a hand? In general, but especially if you can't read what's in the books

[ She shrugs, with a sigh. ]

Two weeks without any good reading material, I'm just catching up on my backlog? ...In all honesty, a little help would be nice...especially if you can recognize something that would differentiate the history I know from any differences that you know.

Sure. Two takes on world history are better than one, right?

Here. [ He holds out his hand for the book. ] Want me to skim it?

[ She nods and passes it over, though... ]

...Before that, you were...stumbling around a bit before. You can see alright, right? I don't want you straining yourself to help me.

[ As he reaches for it... he absolutely misjudges the distance between his hand and the book, and smacks it into it. ]

My vision is fine. It's just... like I can't judge where I am in relation to something? I keep bumping into things that should be really easy to avoid, like door frames, or desks.

Oh...! [ Well, uh. Time to actually place the book in front of him, instead. ] Look at me here, babbling on about this... How are you even getting around?

[ He tugs the book towards him. SUCCESS. ]

Kinda like how I imagine some who's really drunk would get from point A to point B. It's weird.

...When all of this is over, let me help you wherever you want to go, okay? No...stumbling around.

[ He peeks at her over the top of the book. ]

For both our sakes, I might just live here now.

[ A pout rises to her lips. ]

And what would be the problem with me leading you? I'm a capable woman, don't you know?

[ Rebecca, he knows so many capable women, it's ok. ]

It's not that. I'll just end up walking into everything though - probably including you.

That doesn't mean I can't help you around! If I can't handle an uncoordinated teenager, why, what kind of teacher would I be?

[ There's a pause, and then he points over the top of the book. ]

Remember that, when we both go flying into a doorframe.

[ She actually laughs. Akira's lightened her mood, considerably. ]

Have a little faith, won't ye?

Well, I'm all for wild leaps of faith. Sure.

[ And then he flips open the book. ]

Did you pick one at random, or did you know which book you were choosing?

Not a clue! I just grabbed some things from...history and philosophy.

History, huh?

[ He flicks open the book, and then... his eyes go a little wide. Huh. ]

I think I recognise this one. Got any interest in the story of Ishikawa Goemon?

He's a...Japanese outlaw, isn't he? I'm afraid world history isn't quite my forte.

[ Go on, Akira. ]

Yeah. He stole gold from the rich and gave it to the poor. There's a Western outlaw that did the same thing, right?

[ He thinks he remembers something about a guy in the West who lived in a forest? Something like that. ]

I don't think there's a lot of solid, undeniable information on him though. Other that what people have speculated and written down later on.

Yes, like Robin Hood... If there's not a lot of information on him, just what's this say?

[ He's got her interested, that's for sure. Go on, don't leave her in suspense! ]
