[ Once again, the exam begins with the desks arranged in a perfect circle; one desk for each person that's participating in the program. There are nameplates for everyone, and they have been bolted to each of the desks, facing the inside of the circle...

...including the deceased. Their chairs have been placed on top of their desks, signifying that they will not be needed. Above of their desks are holograms of their portraits from their profiles, grayed out and bloodstained.

Today Han is absent-- only Megumi is present at the front of the classroom. ]


Today you are responsible for finding the culprit responsible for the death of Maya Fey, the Apprentice Falsely Accused.

By the way-- I should bring this up, but did anybody find the magatama for Maya-san's necklace? I found the beads and string, but the magatama doesn't seem to be found, so if nobody found it, maybe we could search the suspects to see if they have it on their person/

But why would someone keep such a thing? It held no power for her here, and would hold no power for anyone else besides the power to get them killed.

Ah I see. Then you're right. I see no reason a person would keep such a thing. It's too personal. Too obvious. They probably discarded it if they had any wish to keep their life.

No one's found it though... could they have hidden it that well, with all of us looking for clues?

That's her ying-yang thing, right? There any kind of meaning to that? I know she said she was a spirit medium or something.

She didn't tell me anything, but from what I know, they're items that appeared in prehistoric Japan and were mostly made exclusively of jade and while they originally served as decorative jewelry, at the end of the Kofun period, they were usually used as ceremonial and religious objects.

They were also used in Japanese mythology with Susanoo, who received five hundred magatama from Tamanoya no mikoto, who is the jewel making deity, and Susanoo went to heaven and presented the magatama to Ameterasu who bit one off and blew them away to create other deities. Well, there's just a lot of mythological stories utilizing magatama in general, but I don't think those are really all that important to the trial in particular.

Apparently the Yasakani no magatama is also one of three imperial regalia of Japan and it was used in Japanese enthrone ceremonies, too.

You don't have to kill someone with it. Remember how Yoosung's body was covered in paint? The marker could have been used to cover up the wounds and throw us off.

Then again, that seems unlikely considering the evidence.
