[Entrance Exam] Week One

It would seem that it will be... some time before you're released. Two weeks. That may sound like forever, in this situation. But you aren't left with nothing to do. The Administrator has been kind enough to update the Tasks application on your tablet. There are also now several different tasks that you can accept. Who knows... you might get something good out of it. It's worth checking out at least. There are also several other new applications you can toy with, too.

And you won't go hungry. The staff is here to prepare meals three times a day. Breakfast is served from 6AM-8AM, lunch from 11PM-1PM, and dinner from 5PM-7PM. You'd best make sure you're in the cafeteria in time for those meals, because they won't be waiting around all day for you. They have lives, too. Unfortunately, you won't really be able to ask them about any of that. The serving area is separated by a glass wall, through which they serve you. Even if you try asking-- it would seem they have been told not to answer.

The rest... well. You may just have to see for yourself. At least you're not alone.

The weirdest fact you know?

[Natsume lets out a soft 'eh?' at Nine's answer, although once the next question is posed it doesn't feel right to go and backtrack, so he lets it go. Besides, the only weird facts that initially come to mind are all things that would make him sound completely crazy, so--]

What five things would you take with you on a deserted island?

...as opposed to cats that are a healthy weight? [ Why is he asking this, maybe he's actually curious. Ah, but he'll answer the next question right away as his was kind of rhetorical. ]

A hand-powered generator, a music player, headphones, dynamite, and first-aid kit.

Well... who knows? [But maybe he'll get headbutted by Hollyleaf one of these days so he can find that out too?? Don't mind, don't mind-- and especially don't mind the pizza crust that bounces off his head, and the glare he shoots towards his twin. He looks back at Nine like that never happened though.]

A-anyways. Why dynamite? [That sounds dangerous??]

[ Nine follows the trajectory of the pizza crust and-oh that one. He's not surprised and lets out a bemused exhale. ]

Anyway, explosives are useful. [ No further explanation, but his words have a playful tone that was absent before. ]

Worst gift you've received?

[Well, he can't really argue with that, even if his experience with explosives is exactly nil (and it's not an area he's interested in anyways). The change in tone is interesting though, although he assumes it's because of the pizza crust.]

What skill did you wish you had?

Not as bad as living with them. [ Just stating, and once again he's not keen on elaborating further.

This question though...it would be easier to provide a throw away answer: "flying", "superhuman strength", "teleportation". And in all likelihood Nine would have, if this whole ordeal of being in Fayflower wasn't sitting on his mind. Without thinking, he answers truthfully. ]

Telepathy.

[Living with mice would definitely be a hassle, and while it's a bit of a weird way of saying it (a really bad infestation, maybe?) it's nothing to squint at, probably. Telepathy though... these kinds of questions aren't uncommon, he feels and telepathy probably isn't that unusual an answer, but it feels like it says something about a person that they'd choose something relating to others' thoughts.

So while he's all but attempted to avoid anything too personal, this one slips out before he can stop himself.]

...Are you interested in other people?

That's not a question on the sheet. [ But it's been asked, and Nine feels involved enough not to disengage. Is this how Twelve feels with Lisa? ]

Not exactly. I'm interested in how they think.

[Oops. Reflexively, Natsume opens his mouth to laugh it off and apologize, but he closes it when Nine continues. And for a minute there, he's reminded of all the small moments he's seen into youkai lives and how those memories helped him understand their actions, their burdens. But with people...]

Then that kind of sounds like what we're doing now, although I think it's a little more fun than reading people's minds.

If it was just for curiosity's sake, maybe. [ And certainly that is part of it, but as usual with Nine there was logic behind it. Nothing he ever said or did was just because. ]

Well, that's true, but... [Even though he's gotten more used to the idea of friends, activities like these are still a bit of a novelty to him. Besides--]

To be honest, this is a lot more innocuous then I thought it'd be when we first woke up here. They aren't even reprimanding anyone who isn't participating.

[Not to say that he isn't still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but this is already more positive compared to 95% of his other kidnapping experiences?? Nothing's tried to eat him yet, that's a plus in his book.]

It won't stay that way. No one kidnaps twenty-seven people without some kind of plan in mind.

I don't think you're wrong, but then I don't get how this icebreaker really fits in... the introductions on the first day were like that too. It seems like they just want us to get to know each other.

To let our guard down, to force us to develop some type of camaraderie before they put us through an exercise.

[It's a little surprising hearing such a cynical set of words coming from someone who looks about the same age as him. Maybe it shouldn't be, considering how Nine's been this whole time, but... it still seemed like an extreme possibility to consider.

He almost wants to say something else, but the moment passes, and they're back to some innocuous questions.]

Exceeding the expectations of my teachers. [ A perfectly normal, boring answer, but it leaves Nine irritated. He glances at his watch before looking to Natsume once more. ]
