[Entrance Exam] Week One

It would seem that it will be... some time before you're released. Two weeks. That may sound like forever, in this situation. But you aren't left with nothing to do. The Administrator has been kind enough to update the Tasks application on your tablet. There are also now several different tasks that you can accept. Who knows... you might get something good out of it. It's worth checking out at least. There are also several other new applications you can toy with, too.

And you won't go hungry. The staff is here to prepare meals three times a day. Breakfast is served from 6AM-8AM, lunch from 11PM-1PM, and dinner from 5PM-7PM. You'd best make sure you're in the cafeteria in time for those meals, because they won't be waiting around all day for you. They have lives, too. Unfortunately, you won't really be able to ask them about any of that. The serving area is separated by a glass wall, through which they serve you. Even if you try asking-- it would seem they have been told not to answer.

The rest... well. You may just have to see for yourself. At least you're not alone.

[ for a long moment, maybe even the longest besides when he's asleep, flat is silent. he seems focused on what hollyleaf said, trying to decipher everything. rumbling monsters...round paws...shiny skin...eating and spitting out twolegs. thunderpaths?

Cars! We call those cars. And they don't really eat or spit out Twolegs... we choose to go inside them. But they're not alive in the first place-- they're things created by Twolegs so we can move faster between places. One of the Twolegs control it, while the other Twolegs are there to accompany them!

[ a tilt of the head ]

Ahh, you think so? [ he chuckles, somewhat taken aback by that sudden compliment. ] I think that's the first time I've heard anyone say that.

They're not alive?! But... But they're so big! How- is it like how you craft those huge dens? How...you aren't even that big!

[ Hollyleaf straightens up in surprise, blinking. ]

Twolegs...have more ingenuity than I'd have thought.

[ That's really worrying and Maru doesn't even know where to begin. Kaoru may have had a funny way of talking, but she was really nice and it would break her heart if something happened. ]

Um... is she going to be okay, zura?

Nope. I don't think we had any. I saw a guy's head get smashed, though! Does that count?

[IT VERY OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT, HENRY.]

Oh yeah, it's a bit of a pain. But hey, just as hard for the other folks. And watching them struggle was pretty funny!

[That makes a surprising amount of sense. It's not the first time anyone's mentioned other worlds, but it's hard to get used to thinking of things that way.]

Really? Is going to other worlds normal for you?

Right?! [ he beams at her, happy to see her surprise. ]

Actually, when Twolegs work together, they can do incredible things. Like cars. And even bigger things! We have these things that let us fly in the sky-- just like birds!

[Geez. What was that cat thinking? It only took the space of a minute for Sensei to run up screaming his name, force a racket in his hand while saying something-or-other about "a weird thing on the tennis court" and promptly abandon him. Although it was tempting to just chase after Sensei, there is this racket to deal with, and... well, maybe it wouldn't hurt to check things out for good measure.

And so, Natsume jogs his way over to the tennis court, completely unsuspecting.]

All the vacations I've ever had have been more active, yeah. It might be nice to have a relaxing one once in a while though. Maybe a trip to Okinawa would be cool.

What about you, Akira? You have any dream vacations?

Well, that's good. [At least there isn't a randomly abandoned kid back wherever Ryme City is. Still, there's apparently someone else Pikachu knows that can interact(?) with him, so... hmm. Natsume's getting the sense that he's misunderstood something here. So he steps closer, kind of just... squinting intensely at Pikachu the whole time.

Hiya Max! I'm Twelve. I think this [ he waves his hand in the air, encompassing all of their situation, including this social gathering] doesn't count much as a proper kidnapping. It's a bit too cushy, no matter how you slice it.

[if you let him, he really won't stop]

[Living with mice would definitely be a hassle, and while it's a bit of a weird way of saying it (a really bad infestation, maybe?) it's nothing to squint at, probably. Telepathy though... these kinds of questions aren't uncommon, he feels and telepathy probably isn't that unusual an answer, but it feels like it says something about a person that they'd choose something relating to others' thoughts.

So while he's all but attempted to avoid anything too personal, this one slips out before he can stop himself.]

...Are you interested in other people?

it's like... Hm, how do I explain- a camera is a way to freeze a moment in time. Once you take a picture of a moment, it keeps a reflection of that moment forever- unless you delete it, or destroy the device it's stored on, or whatever.

So, I took a picture of us, so now this tablet has a reflection of that moment, that we can look at whenever we want.

And you can take a picture of anything- like, uh- [He presses a couple buttons on the device, re-opening the camera app and changing the screen to reflect the back camera. He points it at some plants.]

See, now I can take a picture of the stuff in front of us- [Snap!] like that!

They're like... [ it's so difficult to describe an airplane?! he's silent again, trying to think of how to do it. ] They're made out of metal, just like cars. But these have wings, also made out of metal. And they have more metal parts that make them go really fast so they don't fall from the sky.

[Fear not, Natsume. Twelve hands the pizza plate over and pulls a vacated chair closer to sit on. He's now a much politer distance away, and not planning to give the chair back to the original owner anytime soon. The hand that hadn't been holding Natsume's slice turns out to be holding one for himself.

He takes a moment to think, before deciding] Which would you choose: courage, power or wisdom?

... Uhhhh. What? Do I have somethin' on my face?

[It's only natural (and polite) to look over and acknowledge when you're addressed, but most of the time people don't expect to see an angry cat staring them in the face. And so.]

[Run away! Run away!! Or at least stand up and take a few steps back.]

Oh... thanks. [It's a nice gesture, although it's probably obvious that he only really shifts fully into his seat again after Twelve puts a little distance between them.

Natsume lapses into silence as he thinks, staring at the plate of pizza on his lap. Eventually, he looks up.]

I think... wisdom. Even if you have the other two, it can be hard to use them if you don't have the knowledge. What about you?

I... don't know.

I'm going to do my best, but...

[Ultimately, they make the call.]

Even though they put me in charge here...

[Well. She doesn't feel much like they're actually taking her position seriously anymore.]

[ Honestly, there's very little Nine wants when it comes down to it. But a game is a game, and it might not be a bad way to assess how he's fairing after everything that's happened so sure, he can play along. ]

The loser does one thing the winner wants, as long it's within the scope of the rules and doesn't cause harm to others. Fair?
